SUMMER FAMILY FUN AT RED RIVER SKI AREA (Red River, New Mexico)

The Red River Ski Area (RRSA) is looking forward to welcoming summer Red River guests, many who visit for special events and to “beat the heat” in the cool Sangre de Cristo Mountains where the average daytime high temperature is 74 degrees.

Lauren Judycki House, RRSA’s Marketing Director, expects that “in every way, this will be a very cool and exciting summer for our guests”.  The mile-long, 1,600 foot vertical Scenic Chairlift ride up to 10,350 feet elevation offers visitors amazing views.  At the top, enjoy the Tip Restaurant’s indoor/outdoor bar & grill, hiking within the aspen groves and roaming through our “circa 1900’s” replica Moonstar Mining Camp.  In the crisp mountain air, visitors can also enjoy riding their mountain bike or playing the 18-hole disc golf course. The Platinum Chairlift is located near Main Street next to the Lift House Bar & Grill and will be open on weekends beginning Memorial Day weekend and then full time starting on June 15th through the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.  The Platinum Chairlift will be reopened for the fall colors over Aspencade weekend on September 29th and 30th.

The center of summer activities on the lower mountain can be found at the ski area’s main Chalet where families and “thrill seekers” will enjoy summer mountain tubing down Gold Rush Hill, served by the Gold Chairlift.  The Little Blue magic carpet brings guest up the beginner slope for family tubing, including the “Easy Glider” where parents can give their toddlers a thrill in tubes pulled along a shorter/flatter lane.  The 800’ Gold Rush tubing lanes at the RRSA are the longest in the country and, in total, 2,400 feet of downhill tubing excitement is offered.  Weather permitting, summer mountain tubing will be available from June 15th through August 18th.

“The Chalet is a great activity center for families” according to Walt Foley, the RRSA’s Deputy GM and Resort Services Director, “including a BBQ grill on the deck and our Fanny Pack retail shop”.  Also, for those wishing to relax near the water or fish for trout, we have two ponds that are operated and stocked by the Town of Red River, just a block off of Main Street.

Please keep in touch with RRSA on our web site (www.RedRiverSkiArea.com), Facebook, and Twitter for updates of our upcoming special events and programs, which will include music festivals, entertainment at the top of the mountain, an uphill bike race, and a nationally sanctioned disc golf tournament. If you want to see the fun that your family could be having at the ski area this summer, link into our three “real-time, live” controllable web cams to view the Chalet/mountain tubing activity center, the Lift House and base of the Scenic Chairlift ride, and the Tip Restaurant/top of the mountain.

We look forward to providing you a summer of family fun!!
